RuPaul's DragCon interviews: Blair St. Clair & Chad Michaels

Interviews + Photos by Makayla Corfield:

Here are two more exclusive interviews from our Summer 2018 issue featuring a piece all about RuPaul's DragCon 2018!

Blair St. Clair (IG: @blairst.clair)

I am here with Blair St. Clair from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 10.

BC: Well, I do declare I am happy to be here

Can you introduce yourself?

BC: I am your Broadway Baby, 1960’s, maybe 1950’s, Broadway queen.

What is your favorite moment so far of Season 10?

BC: One of my favorite moments so far from Season 10 was from when we did our Rusical challenge because it was quite the spectacle. I am a musical theatre queen at heart. But that was the craziest challenge I’ve ever done. Trying to do live musical production in front of RuPaul -- that makes you question everything.  It was so much fun actually getting to win the challenge with my teammates and being able to go through the entire thing together.

Is there anything you want people to know?

BC:  I just want everyone to know that I had such an amazing time on Drag Race and that someone's self worth does not dictate their placement on a reality television show. Each and every one of us love what we do.  We are all passionate about what we do, and each and every one of us is a star. I am so happy to be a part of the legacy.

Chad Michaels (IG: @chadmichaelsallstar)

I’m here with RuPaul’s Drag Race’s season 4 runner up and All Stars season 1 winner, Chad Michaels (aka Mother Dust).

CM: You got that all right. You did your homework.

Can you introduce yourself and what you do?

CM: I’m a Cher impersonator, and I’ve been around before Drag Race. I did all this Drag Race stuff through the 2000’s and the 90’s and I’ve just always kind of been here, like an element or something.

What has been your favorite moment on Drag Race ever?

CM: I think my favorite moment on RuPaul’s Drag Race was probably Bianca Del Rio’s snatch game. I thought the Judge Judy was amazing.

What was your favorite moment from your seasons?

CM: From my season when Phi Phi O’Hara and Sharon Needles got into the Party City fight.

(The Party City fight produced the most iconic line said by Phi Phi, "At least I am a showgirl, bitch. Go back to Party City where you belong!")

What has been your favorite thing about being a Cher impersonator?

CM: Well, Cher is a really cool lady. When you have the opportunity to impersonate somebody who has dignity and grace and who is just a cool human being, that makes it just that much better.

(Right behind us were some of the costumes that Chad has worn) Did you make or help make these beautiful costumes?

CM: I made some of them, and then some of them were made by my partner Adam Magee, who taught himself how to sew on my sewing machines, and then sometimes we make stuff together. So, it’s kind of like a double effort.

What was it like being in the bottom two the first episode, then later winning the season?

CM: That’s crawling out of the gutter.

Is there anything you want to say before we end this interview?

CM: I just want to say thank you for anyone who has supported me over the years, and watch RuPaul’s Drag Race. ‘Cuz it’s more than just a competition or a reality show. It’s all about life, and it's all about real people with real problems and big success. There’s something there for everyone, so check it out.
