Album Review: Imagine Dragon’s Evolve

Imagine Dragon’s third studio album, Evolve, makes a shifts toward a pop sound. The album features a strong presence of synth and well-arranged drum patterns.  Lead singer Dan Reynolds possesses an impressive range from near-rapping in songs such as “Whatever it Takes”, to his characteristic shouts in “Believer” and “I Don’t Know Why”. Themes throughout the album include the effort of relationships as heard in “Walking the Wire” to not following the norm in “Thunder”. Overall, the often darker tones associated with previous albums such as “Night Visions” have slightly changed, but the album still retains traits the pop-rock band is well known for.
